I’m in need of a Linux guru. I’m fairly proficient with computers; I program html and php, I can build a pc, I can troubleshoot them, etc. I can even run multiple operating systems on the same hd . But with all that I’m having a hard time with Linux and I have a project that needs Linux really bad. I’m putting together computer labs for poor kids in the developing world. There are many obstacles but the two major ones are the cost of shipping the used computers and the high expense of the internet in those countries. Linux would be perfect for cutting the shipping cost if we use its ability to run multiple users from one pc. I understand Linux can run four workstations from one pc. With that system it may even be possible to find the monitors in those countries cheaper than shipping them in. The Internet problem can be solved by setting up a linux server and intranet for the lab. By utilizing a server, I can have the server upload to the internet in bulk at intervals.

Is there someone who would be willing to help me build me an iso for the workstations? And with the server? For example, I loaded an older Xandros version and I lost the Internet on it. I found the newest linux drivers for my nic card but I can’t figure out how to load the drivers.

Sure I'm willing to lend a hand, but why go to the extreme of building a new iso when there are some many great live distributions around?

Thanks for the offer. The reason I think I need an iso is that I need the whole thing on a cd so that it can be loaded onto a donated computer remotely. I mean, I would like to have it so I can send the cd to someone and they would only have to insert the cd and follow the directions. I may be using different sources of used computers, various collection and refurbishing centers. By having my own cd I can just have them load what I want on the machine.

might need to be part of it. I've seen documentation about running 4 monitors, keyboards, & mouse, from one pc. I don't believe it said whether the pc with these four workstations could be diskless or not, as in the terminal server project, but if it can't then I would prefer to have the four from one set up.

At least that's what I'm thinking. Ideas and discussion are welcomed because its a whole lot easier to do it now before we design the cd. Oh, and we should make the finished product open source too, don't you agree? I hope I'm not being too demanding. Sorry if I am.

I'll hunt up the online article I read about four units from one. I thought I had saved it but I can't seem to find it.

I have made iso's in the past, but i think for something this important you should look at one of the many tutorials on customising knoppix
