Set up a proxy Howto ?
Hi, I'm using Kubuntu 8.04. In order to use my Costa Rician banks web site, I have to have a Costa Rician IP address. My problem is, I'm out of the country right now. I think I just need to use a Costa Rician proxy. Can anyone point me in the right direction ? Am I on the right track at least ? I googled a bit, and nothing in the first 3 pages seemed to be of any help.....
you sound like you just want to *use* a proxy, not set on up yourself... that's just application level configuration changes in your browser of choice.
Just to add to what acid_kewpie already said, it sounds like you basically just need to find a proxy in Costa Rica, then configure your browser to use it. In Firefox that would mean going to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Settings. When using the proxy, please assume it is a hostile server and make sure you only send HTTPS through it. Set your Firefox up so that it warns you if you are about to transmit any information via a non-HTTPS (HTTP) connection. You can do that in the Warning Messages section of the Security Preferences.

You're right. I just need to configure my browser to use a proxy, not set one up. When it comes to networking, I'm a novice I guess. I can set up a router and a home network, but not much else, so far.
