satellite internet + VoIP or satellite internet + satellite phone
I live in a remote area of Western Australia and I am taking advantage of a government scheme that offers $A2500.00 rebate on installation of satellite internet broadband (I have used that technology before), the same government offers a rebate of up to $A1000,00 on purchase of a satellite phone (about which I know nothing) and I wonder what would be the best solution as I do not know the current state of VoIP used by those satellite internet providers, especially when it comes to ring POTS (plain old telephone systems).
I am also a bit confused because I've noticed a provider of both of these services charging $A300.00 per year for a static IP address for the phone when some sell them for $5.00 or give them free. Is this plain robbery?
I can evaluate the satellite internet plans on offer but I have no clue about the VoIP addition or about the separate satellite phones. All I want from the phone is to avoid having to drive 100k to make a phone call.
Could anyone enlighten me on the subject and perhaps give advice.
Thank you for your help.
