Samba Security issue

my smb.conf file has security=user

My understanding of this is that, samba requires a user account to access the share, is this correct?

I have several samba shares that require me to login with a user name and password when accessing from windows xp machine. This is what I expect.

The issue is that I am not required to enter a user/pass when accessing the share via a modded xbox, using xbox media center.

Why can I access my samba shares if I am not entering a user/pass from my xbox media center?

Dont expect everyone to be familiar with xbox media center, but can anyone think of a parameter or have an idea why samba is allowing access.

TIA,

Boyd

Is guest access allowed on your samba shares (guest ok = yes)?
