samba: multiuser with simple user mapping

I have a Linux server, and a NAS device from Synology, with matching sets of user names.

From the server, I create a mount through the following command:

Code:
sudo mount.cifs //diskstation/usr -ouser=master,multiuser,setuids,idsfromsid /srv/usr
The expectation is that the particular combination of mount options makes the ownership and permissions of files on the mount match those on the server.

In contrast, I observe that all the files are owned by root, and not accessible to regular users.

How may I achieve the desired mapping of ownership and permissions, based on user name?

Note that it is not necessary that permissions on the mount are reported as on the NAS, which uses a non-POSIX ACL system, only that the NAS enforces the permissions of files in the mount according the permissions of the mapped user.

The NAS runs Samba 4.10.18 and the server runs version 4.11.6.

Note that as Synology tries to limit the configurability of server shares, it is preferred to achieve the desired effect with minimal alteration of the NAS configuration.

This document appears to describe a set of use cases different from the one I have explained.

I am holding hope that someone knows about these parameters and understands why the mount is behaving as it is rather than how I wish.

I am adding another post in case doing so helps the topic gain further notice.

I suspect not many will have experience with using the 'idsfromsid' mount option. It relies on the server for SID info...could the issue be with the disktation perhaps? What does the following report about the mount directory?
Code:
ls -ld /srv/usr
Anyway, will follow this thread with interest.

The command reveals no information of particular interst. Only that the owner is root and writing is forbidden for everyone else.

Code:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 May 9 13:08 /mnt
I'm not sure how to address your other question, about whether the problem may be caused by the DiskStation. It's certainly possible, as I have no reason to think it's not possible.

Perhaps consider casting your support net wider and reach out to samba IRC or mailing list...
