running X remotely -> "cannot open display..."

So im all hooked up to the net via a router.
After jumpin around the room when ping www.google.com came back with 64 bytes from ....

i tried telnetting to my Universities Solaris jobbie and running a little X program i've written thats sitting on there.

heres the error :-

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: my.domain.name:0 at testapp line 9

I can run X over telnet cant i?
Do i need to edit my Xfree86 config file in some way?

or

Does my uni sys admin need to give me permission to connect to X?

or

Something else that i havent though of?

:-)

did you run "xhost + your.display:0.0" from your university login?
From man xhost:

NAME
xhost - server access control program for X

SYNOPSIS
xhost [[+-]name ...]

DESCRIPTION
The xhost program is used to add and delete host names or user names to the list allowed to make connections to the X server. In the case of hosts, this provides a rudimentary form of privacy control and security. It is only sufficient for a workstation (single user) environment, although it does limit the worst abuses. Environments which require more sophisticated measures should implement the user-based mechanism or use the hooks in the protocol for passing other authentication data to the server.

This is more than likely your problem, give it a shot. Any questions, do "man xhost" for an explanation.
