can i take any dns server from another ISP?

but why works my mail not is that also using dns?

Your mail is proabably trying to access the server "mail.yourisp.com" so yes it will need dns too.

What ISP are you using? most ISPs have more than one DNS server.

i have fillt in the both dns server as primaire and secundaire

194.134.5.55 and 194.134.5.5 i use wanadoo

i life in Holland

why o why does it not work mabye i have to installl redhat 8.0

I can't see why you are blaming redhat I can't see how that is causing a problem.

I would confirm with your ISP that those are the correct DNS entries.

The DNS IPs I can find for Wanadoo are:
62.37.228.20
62.36.220.75

hello i fillt in the dns of another ISP but that doesn't work

maby i have to make a route to the DNS server


i can ping www.zoek.nl on my linuxserver when i logt in as root but i can't ping it on my windows client so dns works but not on my windows client

What is the DNS server used by your linux box?

in /etc/resolv.conf

no that doesn't work on XP i can ping the dns server and on my linuxx server i can ping www.zoek.nl at the prompt but not on my Win Xp machine?

This seems very odd - it seems to be an issue with XP.
Do the DNS servers look correct for "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" when you run:
ipconfig /all
