received ping statistic


Hi,

I need to know when a linux station receives PING packets,
is there some way to do this? reading from /proc filesystem?

you can use netstat statistics (netstat reads /proc)
netstat -ws

You could something libpcap-based listening on the device(s) which outputs to logfile or have a Netfilter "-j LOG" rule in place and watch syslog or logfile for it.
