I'm having the same problem as many others. I just started to run a poptop vpn server on my linux 9.1 pro system. The problem is that people sometimes arent able to connect to the server. When the username password checking comes on, the 718 error comes up. The connections are logged in /var/log/messages
The logfile allways starts the same way if the connection fails:
Quote:
linux pptpd[17451]: GRE: read error: Bad file descriptor
Jun 6 16:28:17 linux pptpd[17176]: CTRL: GRE read or PTY write failed (gre,pty)=(6,5)
|
In case the connection is succesfull, the above messages turns up later in the process, but the connection keeps alive. Most times, it looks like this when the error comes up later in the process:
Quote:
Jun 6 16:49:10 linux pptpd[17451]: GRE: read error: Bad file descriptor
Jun 6 16:49:10 linux pptpd[17451]: CTRL: PTY read or GRE write failed (pty,gre)=(-1,-1)

note:
error718
Cause: This error indicates a PPP conversation was started, but was terminated because the remote server did not respond within an appropriate time. This can be caused by poor line quality or a problem with the server (ISP). This error can occur when your modem has connected to the ISP and has sent username and password, but there is no response from the server
After a couple of retries, the connection usually gets established.
Does anyone know how I can get rid off this ennoying error?
thanx,
deus
