only first usb modem is "attached" and
Hello all,
I am running a VMWAre player image of Fedora core 8 (fc8, kernel 2.6.23) on my PC with Win XP.
udevd is working.
Plugging in a first USB 3g modem such as Novatel XU870 or Sierra, everything is ok. If it is the first time I plug in the modems then the usbserial and option drivers are loaded and registered in usbcore (or the usbserial and Sierra, if I inserted the Sierra modem first), /dev/ttyUS0-1 are created ok, tailing /var/log/messages shows the "attach" etc, and the devices are accessible to kppp and pppd.
Then I plug in the second USB modem. Almost nothing happens. Tailing /var/log/messages shows nothing. udevmonitor doesn't show any event. lsusb only shows the first modem that I had plugged in previously.
The only thing that does seem to happen is that this 2nd modem is now listed on the VMWare player Devices list (BTW, which fc8 file shows this list?).
Order of which modem I plug in first doesn't matter. Disconnecting and replugging - same results (only the first modem generates the /dev/ttyUSB*).
So basically the system doesn't recognize this second modem as a usb device with its proper drivers and does not allow me to work with it. Any idea?
For comparison, when I am booting on the same PC a disk on key distribution of SlackWare (without the VMWare player of course), then everything is ok, both USB devices are identified, the relevant /dev/ttyUSB* are created, ...
Some details on version etc:
