need help setting up a bridge connection on Virtual Box (Ubuntu)

I recently did an Ubuntu 8.04 server set up and installed Virtual Box.On top of Virtual box is another server set up as well as a desktop set up.

The problem I face is that I am not able to map to the machine from any other networked computer. When I go to the network option in Virtual Box enable network adapter is selected and the adapter type selected is PCnet-PCI II(Am79c97oa) from a list of four options. For the Attached options I see NAT, Host Interface and Internal Network. The MAC address is generated and Cable Connected is checked.Everything else is grayed out.

I hope this is sufficient information to help me trouble shoot this issue.

Hello 3vra

Which version of VirtualBox are you running? According to the 3.0.0 User manual "To enable bridged networking, all you need to do is to open the Settings dialog of a virtual machine, go to the “Network” page and select “Bridged network” in the drop down list for the “Attached to” field." I'm running 3.0.2 and it does show the “Bridged network” option.

Again according to the 3.0.0 User manual "The way bridged networking works has been completely rewritten with VirtualBox 2.0 and 2.1, depending on the host operating system. From the user perspective, the main difference is that complex configuration is no longer necessary on any of the supported host operating systems".

Best

Charles
