Question (?) my IP(eth0) changed by running vmware

Hi, can somebody help me.
Why vmware (CentOS 5) changed my ip:192.168.1.40 to 169.254.227.96, so I can no more access to my lan (base of 192.168.1.xxx). Thanks.

169.254.227.96 is an Automatic Private IP Addressing number. Is there a Windows server in the mix, Such as the VMware host or the DHCP server?

Let me know how you have setup the LAN.

Thanks,
James Glenn

Believe it or not but when using VMWare your NIC gets a different MAC address. If you have a DHCP server which issues addresses based on MAC address you could run in to a situation like this. Also, when you have a Cisco switch with port security enabled, this could happen if it sees a different MAC address.

Thedonkhonk is right about the 169.nnn.nnn.nnn address. It is assigned because apparently you expect a DHCP address but you get none.
