Mint Cinnamon 20.1 Ulyssa not connecting to WiFi.

Hi,

I've installed Mint Cinnamon 20.1 Ulyssa onto my old PC, and it sems to work OK so far. But, I don't seem to be able to conect to the shared WiFi router where I live. I'm in the Unitek Kingdom and the router is linked to TalkTalk's broadband. Mint can see the signal, and asks for a password, so it can tell it's passworded. And it can see other signals in neighbouring houses. But it never connects. It just gets to connecting, then that's it. I've given it a twenty minute wait, but still connecting.

So I tried connecting it to my smartphone when I turned on WiFi hotspots. And it did the same thing. It didn't have a problem connecting to my phone via Bluetooth when I turned Bluetooth tethering on, and was able to see the internet via that method.

So I'm assuming it's Mint, and not my hardware, but it might be my PC or WiFi dongle. I don't have a problem runing Windows 7 on the other partition. I'm waiting on the delivery of a new PC with a new dongle, but I wondered if anyone had experienced a similar situation or could tell me what I could try. Please let me know if you need any more information.

I'm a newbie to Linux so I might not understand complicated replies.

Thank you.

MMM.

P.S. The router is a Huawei HG633.

Can you try setting your cellphone hotspot (temp) to NO password security, to see if that works?

There's several web search results about this strange behavior:
(fixed by manually entering password into config; let us know IF that works)

https://askubuntu.com/questions/7763...-error-message

There's a script that will collect a TON of info, to post, for debugging:

Hi, thanks for your reply and sorry for taking a while to reply. I bought a new PC with a new WiFi dongle included and they connect to the WiFi just fine. But I will refer to your suggestion if I experience the same problem in future. Regards, MMM.
