mail server authenticating to ldap

hi there people,
im setting up a portal website and would will be setting it up to authenticare against an ldap directory, im reasonably new to linux and would like some info on setting up a mail server to authenticate users against theldap directory.

the complicated part comes along when i require users belonging to specific groups to authenticate to different domains

e.g. "username@groupname.domain.com"

any help will be greatly appreciated.

my second question is wether or not i can setup apache to host subdomains in a similar fashion.

e.g. "groupname.domain.com"

is there some way i can intergrate these vhosts with the ldap directory so as that when i add/delete a group of users their subdomain is added/deleted as well?

once again any help would be greatly appreciated...

..even if i am told to look elsewhere =P

cheers

Zach Fleming

Perhaps you could elaborate on what the problem is when people are in different groups. Also, what software are you using?

I'm not aware of anything existing to create/delete vhosts based on an ldap directory but I suppose you could write a simple perl script that could be run by cron to do this quite easily.
