kinternet options greyed out SuSE 10.1 upgrade
I recently upgraded from SuSE 9.2 to 10.1, but when I did, the kinternet program is now acting like I don't have permission to run smpppd (checked, permissions set to dialout).
There was a lot of mucking about with the upgrade to get Yast to work at all, then I upgraded to 10.2, which was totally unacceptable, so I reinstalled the 10.1 dvd, and most things came back to working again, but still can't seem to figure out which programs and files need to have permissions set to run for kinternet to work. When I right-click, all the options are greyed out except "settings--various settings".
Running the modem setup under YaST worked once, but permissions? would get lost on reboot, and go back to greyed-out.
I've tried too many things from reading all the posts, and now I don't know how to start over again.
Reformatting is not an option. I will post files if you tell me which ones.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Local Firewall is not on at this time (set to manual start). Is that related?
Also, Kppp works to dial out and connect, but doesn't seem to take over internet function from lan connection like kinternet used to do when it connects to the provider's server (can't send mail).
