iproute2 (ip route), pppoe and default route

Hello,

This is not a problem but rather something that can be described as a peculiar behavior. When I have a default route set and I connect my PPPOE connection (rp-pppoe 3.8) I don't have internet until I add a second default route or overwrite the existing one. My question is: Why the ip route add default via [my pppoe ip here] dev ppp0 command doesn't overwrite the (or add another one) route, whereas the route add default gw [my pppoe ip] dev ppp0 command does? Also when my pppoe connection connects to my isp's server it doesn't overwrite the existing default route either? I'm using Slackware 11.0 if it matters, but I've observed similar behavior in other distros such as kubuntu. I can conclude that this is not a distro specific problem but rather an issue with the iproute2 and rp-pppoe packages? Any suggestions why this happens?

Regards.
