Question IP traffic per host statistics

Hello all

I am looking for a tool that will allow me to create a graph (or textual report) of ‘Internet traffic’ per host on our little (35 PC) network.

All Internet traffic is routed through one gateway. The gateway has two NICs in it. I am only interested in the volume of data / host on eth0 (that NIC that is connected to our provider).

Unfortunately, we pay for our Internet usage use per GB and must encourage employees not to waste resources and would thus like to make public each host’s usage.

I have spent a considerable about of time searching the ‘net for such a tool, but my search was not fruitful. I found several tools that show the speed of the network, but not the actual volume transferred per host.

Could someone recommend a tool that will allow me to get stats (graph/text) of the amount of data per day/week/month/year each host on our network has sent and received over eth0 in the gateway?

Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

Thank you in advance

Stefan

You could install squid and force people to use it as a proxy by stoping masquarding on anything you gove over to squid. I think that it can create logs.
