Things are only difficult if you refuse to documentation or around a subject because it's linux.

One of the first things I did when I decided to dual boot was to get a book called "Running Linux" so I did have to read all the man pages and Howto's for something simple.

Or does anyone has to be an engineer if you want to drive a car ?

Everyone has driving lessons or some form of teaching before they drive a car.

Linux is not less user friendly than Microsoft for doing simple stuff.

If you spend the amount of time I do teaching family and friend's who are computer illiterate how to do simple stuff ie how to download digital photos, how to set up their email on Microsoft operating systems, then you will soon understand that everyone needs some form of teaching.

The people who are easiest to teach are those that will read around the subject themselves (self teaching) or are just very logical thinkers.

With Linux there is loads of documentation, searchable mailing lists and books for how to do stuff. I rarely post on linux mailing lists or forums as I use the search facilities for my problems as I know they are not new.

By the way saying I haven't got time isn't an excuse in my book. My family and friends don't say they haven't got time if they want to learn how to download their digital photos and they can't find someone to teach them- they first read the documentation then search the web or read a book.

I thought this forum was for asking questions and receiving/giving help on linux? not bashing... If someone comes here for help, asking a question that may seem stupid or 'easy' doesn't mean he/she doesn't need your assistance. It also doesn't mean they aren't already researching manuals and past post. What might be 'simple networking' to you could be complex for someone who doesn't have any experience setting a up network. My personal experience setting up a network has invovled only a windows 98se OS. And I've only had to do it maybe 6 times in my entire life. Not to mention that windows lingo and the lingo of the linux world are very very different.

Give a a break.

I am not suggesting that ur problem is stupid or that the solution for (someone who is unsure about linux) is necessarily easy and as u will notice I have posted on this thread with advice about the ip addys to add in ur networking everyone has been new at some point to whichever os they are using. I am suggesting that some of the help offered to something with a simple solution is making it seem more difficult than it actually is. I am willing to help with any problem if I possibly can :-)
