Use Samba, NFS, or set up an FTP Server. I would just set up an FTP server but thats me.

I recently saw an interesting article over at http://www.linuxgazette.com/ about using Konqueror with shh to manage files on remote host.

Using this method does not require samba or ftp but you do need to make sure that iptables isn't blocking shh port 22.

What I did was create a user fred. Then I put the files to be accessed by others into his home folder. Now other Linux users can access that folder from thier Konqueror. I also made a shortcut to url on the other deskstops which pointed to the folder address.

Example....
sftp://fred@192.168.0.1/home/fred to access files on local network
sftp://fred@www.mydomain.com/ to access files on remote network

Just out of curiosity ...

How would you use Samba or NFS without mounting?

You're right about NFS. With Samba you would use smbclient to access smb share ftp-style without mounting.

On the Konqueror over ssh thingy: you're not really sharing anything. You're managing files by runing konqueror on remote machine and displaying konqueror's output on local screen via ssh tunnel. But i guess it kinda comes close.
