Question How to connect two laptops with the help of a cross cable in fedora 9?

I have two laptops running fedora 9 (32-bit and 64-bit on each system) and I want to connect them together for sharing files. For this I have a cross cable i.e.,a simple cable that is usually used to connect a PC with ADSL modem. Can anyone help me ?
Best Regards.

If it is really a cross-over cable, simply connect the two machines and set them up with static IPs; something like 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Then use whatever protocol is easiest for you, SMB, NFS, FTP, etc.

2. I don't know how to set them up with static IPs ?
3. which protocol is easiest and/or appropriate for me ?

Most systems don't even need a cross over cable. Most nic's will auto correct for the cable if you power them up.

Static ip is set either with a network manager or by using ifconfig command.

Fedora ought to "see" the other computer. To access files you need some file transfer support. TFTP, FTP, NFS, Samba(cifs). I tend to find tftp open but it is command line only. FTP can be used in some browsers or other ftp client but you have to allow some folder.
