How does one network linux only machines ?

I would like to network 3 machines all running linux. Everything that I've read seems to discuss networking Linux with Windows through Samba.

How do I connect these machines with the intent of sharing an internet connection, a local printer, and the files from one machine to the next?

Thanks for the help.

I would suggest looking into NFS or Samaba. If you want to look into further details google it.

you could set up NIS server. Use NFS for your file sharing. CUPS for your print sharing. And set up one of your boxes as a router.

This would be the best option, IMHO. Just be careful if you're using NFSv3, as it's not too secure. Make sure your network is decently secured as would be your router (since it would be able to access your NFS easily if compromised).

Hi,

Checkout slackbasics (#4 in my sig). This will help you setup your network. Slackware is the Distro but this will help you.

Rute would be another good reference (#6)

HTH!
