Post GNU Telnet -b missing - any alternative

I am using GNU telnet client 1.4.2 and it does not contain the -b option. The BSD telnet contains the option ...

Does anyone know an alternative to the -b option for the GNU 1.4.2 client such that I can specify the hostalias and the destination address ? Is there something I can set in the .telnetrc file so provide this optionality ?

Thanks.
