Gentoo Install Questions

Hello all...
I've only touched Red Hat a few times, but I consider myself quite knowledgable in computers and so far in gentoo I've caught on pretty fast (emphasis on somewhat). I'm trying to install gentoo on my Athlon XP 2200+ box. I also tried this on my Dell Inspiron 9100, but I was told that the Broadcom 440x card had no linux drivers (but I'll get to that later).

OK... I put the Gentoo 2004.1 CD in, boot, get to the kernel, enter a new root password, then try to config the network.

I ran lspci and it says the following for my network card:

Code:
00:08.0 Ethernet controller: Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21140 [FasterNet] (rev 12)
WinXP says it's an Intel 2114x (Generic) or something like that. I read somewhere that I should load the tulip drivers, so I typed in

Code:
modprobe tulip
I type in
Code:
net-setup eth0
, press 1 to use DHCP to auto-detect, and then it says
Code:
Type ifconfig to make sure the interface was configured correctly.
So I type in
Code:
ifconfig eth0
and it shows the following:

(I blocked out my HWaddr.. however there are that many 00's at the end)
Code:
Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 99-99-99-99-99-99-99-99-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
I tried pinging yahoo, but all I get is
Code:
ping: unknown host yahoo.com
This is still just booting off CD because I want to install gentoo. If you have any clue, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Update:

After doing an ifconfig -a (I just learned that now), I found out that my ethernet card is "eth1", not eth0. So I did a net-setup eth1 and now I'm working:

Code:
Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:C0:13:12:ED
inet addr: 192.168.0.7 Bcast: 192.168.0.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0

(and on and on)
:P glad I got that settled.. on to installing!
