ew-7317 usb wireless

Hi,
My wireless network is secured with WPA2, encryption AES, password
I plugged in a usb wireless dongle (edimax EW-7317) to my laptop on F9 beta, and to my surprise it was immediately recognised:

lsusb

Code:
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0ace:1215 ZyDAS WLA-54L WiFi
lsmod (the relevant part)

Code:
zd1211rw 43524 0
mac80211 184928 1 zd1211rw
cfg80211 24712 1 mac80211
iwconfig:

Code:
lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions
wmaster0 no wireless extensions
wlan0 network is down
Then after I've done:

Code:
iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
               essid "myessid"
               channel 11
               key s:mywifipassword
then iwconfig showed:
Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"myssid"
Mode: Managed Frequency:2.462GHz Access Point: not associated
       Fragment thr=2352 B Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off
       Encryption key:xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xx
       Link Quality:0 Signal Level:0 Noise level:0
RX invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
       Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 MIssed beacon:0
iwlist scan
Code:
...
...
...
wlan0 interface doesn't support scanning: Network is down

I've never managed to get any wifi to work under linux so I'm
still a newbie when it comes to networking.

What do I do next?

thanks
