/etc/hosts setting problems

Can anyone tell me howto set the /etc/hosts file?
Currently I have:

127.0.0.1 PT3 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.0.1 PT3.com PT3

Where PT3 is just my server hostname, and there is no FQDN PT3.com.

as i want to send emails out from this linux server.

I have disabled SMART_HOST in the /etc/mail/sendmail.mc as i don't know the SMTP provider, in other words i don't have any control for my company's mail server.:

dnl define(`SMART_HOST',`mail.banshing.com')

What i want is to use sendmail to send emails out.

Anyone can give me suggestion please?

Thanks so much

Johnny

You've got your loopback interface 127.0.0.1 in the /etc/hosts I suggest changing it to your external IP if you want to send e-mails out

127.0.0.1 localhost
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx PT3

Where xxx is your ip. If you are directly connected to Internet use this one, if you are connected using a router then use the external IP.
