Red face Does my ftp work?

I've set up ftp as per the guide below:

How to install FTP Server for File Transfer service

* Read #General Notes
* Read #How to add extra repositories

sudo apt-get install proftpd

However, i don't know if the ftp server is working. I'd test it myself by trying to ftp myself from my own computer but this doesn't work.

I've created an extra user called testme with the password testmepassword .

Could anyone try testing my ftp server please? I think it's using the standard port of 21. I have dns entry called evilbot.homelinux.com which should point to my router currently at 83.146.18.70

The router has port forwarding for 21 to my pc running the ftp.

Please let me know if it works and if not why not. Also, please don't hack my box.. there's really not much there worth hacking!

Type in a terminal:

Code:
ps -ef | grep ftp
Does any FTP service there, specifically proftpd? You may have to manually load it by going to
Code:
cd /etc/init.d
sudo ./proftpd restart
Lastly, once you do all that, you can test it yourself by opening a browser and going to:

ftp://127.0.0.1

I am certain, however, that you would have to configure proftpd to let it know what paths you want to share on your computer and all that. It may not work straight off the bat. I cannot help you with configuring it since I do not use it. I am, however, guessing there's a /etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf file of some sort.
