I think the dmesg that you posted is not complete. I do not see anywhere were the wl.ko is loaded into the kernel. There should (unless someone fiddled with it) be a message about how this taints the kernel. I do see that it is getting loaded tho. I wonder if its set to access point mode or something tho since it is not showing up correctly when you do a iwconfig.

So, what is the problem?
Your wireless works.
There are a lot of manuals for Ubuntu how to use NetworkManager.
You need just connect.

If you don't like their NM, you can try WICD - it is much simple.

The interesting thing is that, while it would appear that I do have a wireless connection, I am unable to connect to the net. I have to be physically connected to my modem in order to do so. So if I am able to connect wirelessly, what gives?

Hmm, a lot has been posted in this thread so please forgive me if you've already provided this info.

What is your access point? Is it running dhcp with wep or something? If so have you tried something as simple as

Code:
iwconfig eth2 essid whatever
iwconfig eth2 key s:yourkey
dhclient eth2
Evo2.

How do I find out what my access point is? How can I tell if I'm running DHCP or WEP? I'd really appreciate detailed instructions, thanks!

Of the scan output which is your wifi access point?

Incidentally I had similar problem with my bcm4306 and kubuntu 9.10 beta 64bit

Okay you answered my question, now I would suggest that you turn off encryption on your nexus access point, and try to connect again with nimnull22's commands that lead to your scan results.

once you can connect in open mode then we can progress to wpa-supplicant (the bane of my life!)

First of all, Maxximiliann.

You have try to connect with Network manager on Ubuntu, or explain us why you don't want or can't do this.
Second, can Network Manager scans you network and allows you to choose you AP, choose encryption?

Because you start this thread with question: "Cannot get Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g to connect w/ Ubuntu 9.10"
But your wireless perfectly works. It is not Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g problems.
To solve any problem with linux - one have to at least determine exact problem. Because solving one we can make other.

I stated at the outset "I can't get my wireless connection to access the net." Don't know how I could have been any clearer.

As far as the Network Manager is concerned, it automatically connects me to Nexus but I'm not able to connect to the net. I'm working on implementing minrich's suggestion. I'll be back to post the results soon.
