Cannot browse web page through wired connection

Greetings:
I have set up a simple webserver running on an arduino. I wish to browse it from a Raspberry Pi running Raspbian. The connection is a direct wire between the two Ethernet ports using a crossover cable. The pi and arduino have been assigned addresses on the same subnet. Nothing else is on the "net."

When I try to browse to the arduino using the pi, I get a message that the address is unreachable. I have used 2 different browsers on the pi.

I suspect I have missed a setting somewhere. Can anyone help?

I cannot test this with a PC -- my workplace has a very strict policy about connecting anything to a pc Ethernet port.

Problem Solved

I found the problem:
On the Arduino I needed the Ethernet2 library, since I was using the Ethernet 2 shield.
