Can't WOL from suspend, but can from shutdown on Fedora10

If I shut my PC down using shutdown -h I can use a WOL packet to wake it up again.

But if I use pm-suspend this doesn't work, and the only thing which will wake the PC from suspend is the power switch.

The LEDs on the NIC stay on whether I use shutdown or suspend.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Would appreciate any pointers to sorting this out. This is Fedora 10, kernel 2.6.27.24

Thanks,

Jon.

Yes, I've seen this problem, sometimes I've been able to fix it, sometimes not. Do you have ethtool installed?
Code:
sudo ethtool eth0
will show you whether WOL is enabled by your card (the 'g' flag will be set). If it isn't you can enabled it with
Code:
sudo ethtool -s eth0 wol g
If this fixes your problem we can talk about how to make sure it is always enabled. If 'g' is already enabled and it doesn't fix your problem, or if 'g' is enabled and when you resume it is reset to 'd'. We can talk about how to try and prevent ACPI from powering off your network card.

Hi there,

Yes I do have ethtool, and WOL is enabled, at least at the moment.

I'll try a suspend/resume cycle and see if it's still enabled.

Thanks

Jon.

Right, I just suspended the PC (it's taken me until now because it was rebuilding a RAID array and I wanted to let it finish) and having just woken it up again (via the power switch) I have this:

Code:
[root@lord]# ethtool eth1
Settings for eth1:
        Supported ports: [ TP ]
        Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Full
        Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
        Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Full
        Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
        Speed: 1000Mb/s
        Duplex: Full
        Port: Twisted Pair
        PHYAD: 0
        Transceiver: internal
        Auto-negotiation: on
        Supports Wake-on: umbg
        Wake-on: g
        Current message level: 0x00000007 (7)
        Link detected: yes

...which is the same as it was before suspend.

I noticed that the NIC's LEDs were on when the PC was suspended.

So I'm still mystified!

Jon.
