I'm scunnererd, dang windows

You could always try a slight of hand and create an eth0:0 virtual interface I suppose and assign it an ip 192.168.5.x whilst still having
192.168.2.x on eth0, I haven't tried adding more than one ip to a card but there's plenty of info on these boards I think.

the proxy is needed, cause it's the gateway

well, then i should try this virtual interface thing ...

but maybe i've to write something into a *.conf or map-file or so? ... maybe i forgot something?

however, then i'm looking for help to create a virtual interface. anyone out there?

Well bearing in mind i haven't done it before, as root

ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.5.5 (or whatever ip)
route add net 192.168.5.0 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add default gw 192.168.5.1

thats just a guess so syntax and all that might be wrong

route add net 192.168.5.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 ...
it says "no adress associated with name"
the other things work ...
and well
i've got internet on that linux box
it's still in the 2.XX net ...
looks like it's working

Yah, my syntax was probably wrong somewhere but if it's working it's working. And either get the proper commands and put them in a start up file or do what they say in the other thread you started (sign of a desperate man : )

Either way if it's working, it's working although the mystery remains
