browsing problems

i can connect to the internet fine, i am assigned an ip address and can use, without problems anything in the shell (eg, ping, ftp) but as soon as i go into x windows its asthough i am not connected

netscape cant get to any webpages, gFTP cant connect to a site that FTP in shell can etc...

what is wrong? i figured that once i get connected in the shell it should just work when i type in "www.google.co.uk" in netscape

(i use an adsl usb speedtouch modem, and 'benoit's drivers')

Seems really strange to me. Can you tell me if you can ping www.google.co.uk from shell? ( Not ip, just the name ).
