Automounting Windows Directory

Hello,

I have a linux machine (Fedora Core 2) and a Windows XP machine. I have an mp3 collection on the XP machine, that I would like to make available to the linux machine.

I can use the following mount command and successfully mount the drive:

Code:
mount.cifs //MACHINE/mp3_org mp3/ -o password=
I would like to have this drive automounted, so that when I reboot the Windows machine (every few days) I don't have to mount the drive manually from the linux machine.

I read a few HOWTO's but did not have much luck.

I did edit the /etc/auto.master file and added the following line:

Code:
/auto /etc/auto.misc --timeout=30
Then I created the /auto directory and created in it a directory called mp3/, as the mount point for the automount.

Then I went into the /etc/auto.misc file and added the following entry:
Code:
 mp3 -fstype=smbfs,password= ://MACHINE/mp3_org
I saved everything, restarted autofs, but I cannot automount the drive.

I think I am just stuck on the proper syntax of the statement in the auto.misc file, but I am stumped.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't know that much about Fedora, but I definitely have not heard of this auto.misc thing you're talking about.

Don't you use /etc/fstab for mounting info?
In any case, this works for Ubuntu and should work for Fedora, too:

I don't want to put it in fstab because the windows machine is rebooted frequently, and the linux machine is rarely rebooted. If I mount it in fstab, when the linux machine boots up, that is fine, providing the windows machine is booted already. But if the windows machine is rebooted after the linux machine is up, then the mount is broken. Automount works perfectly in this case, because it will mount, unmount, and re-mount the drive, on demand.

I think you need the username=yourname option in your auto.misc file
I was having the same problem you are with a cifs mount, and I just got it working. Here are my example files if that helps

File: /etc/auto.master
/home/Work/Maps /etc/auto.work

File: /etc/auto.work
F-Drive -fstype=cifs,user=myusername,password=mypassword,uid=mylocalaccount ://eng-server/F-Drive

I made the /home/Work/Maps directory, and all it contains is a directory called F-Drive. You can use symbolic links for everything else.
