Appletalk / First server / Samba

Hello all,

I just have a few questions. To give you a little background, I recently installed Slackware 10.1 on my machine; everything works perfectly! So now I want to start a server. Which one is good to start out with? I've heard that SSH is decent for a first run but also heard that I may want to try FTP. Either way, I'm assuming that both of these are already on the system.

My second question: does Linux have Appletalk capabilities?

Lastly: Samba server, is it installed with every disto? I don't see it but I could be doing it incorrectly.

Thanks for your help!

if you installed everything, then yeah, samba should be installed.
have you seen Shilo's Slackware Site (slocate is really useful)

ssh and ftp aren't servers, they are protocols. See Shilo's site for tips, you want to look into apache.

Linux does have appletalk capabilities.

That actaully was an informatice guild, thanks for the address. I didn't see Appletalk though. I did a Google search and found something called Netatalk, has anybody heard of this?

I also had another question: does Linux have built-in support for VPN?
