Advice what to install for IPV6 Wifi Firewall please.

I'm still ipv4 with old scripts.

QUESTION: any advice where to download scripts or programs that do not require ubuntu or redhat (that run in most linux and do not require Gnome KDE running nor either of their newest bleeding edge lib versions or crypto socks only ubuntu builds

I want to enable IPV6. Firewalls I've downloaded all fail when run (many don't even support firewalling of FORWARDING, pf why bother then?)

All the Wifi Setup I've seen require Qt5.high but I can't run Qt. I'd like Dialog or script or Gtk2. The ones that used to exists I can no longer find.

To me - requiring a gigabyte of Qt to offer but several bytes of configuration is - swatting a fly with a sledgehamer on 1/4" drywall. Even if I ran a full KDE (i don't) I wouldn't want to hit a fly with a hammer I would want the configurator that worked when X wasn't running.

To me - mr. network transparent - X may require a remote IP for starting, so graphical is DOWN 2.

(some may not realize but if you start X before you machine has it's IP X cannot run the same. sad fact.)

I would like to include (scripts/program) that get and end-user having either a cable modem or a wifi on the internet with "a believable firewall", and a kid could do it. (was easily plausible in the ipv4 days - with ipv6 i am unsure)

So would you like us to guess as to what you've downloaded and tried, so we might be able to help fix it??

So install/use ip6tables, or firewall-cmd for your scripts. Both work with IPv6. And saying you want a GUI interface but don't want to use any of the GUI libraries doesn't make much sense. If you have scripts already, is there a reason you can't use ncurses to have a menu-based configuration utility that you can run from a terminal??

Sorry, 100% wrong. I have started a TON of machines, from blade servers to VM's, and stand-alone devices (laptops and desktops) that had no network configurations at all, and X/Gnome/KDE have always come right up with no problems.

Then you probably should do more research into IPv6 alternatives to what you're 'scripts' are using for IPv4.

I use ip6tables. But I don't want to just include a binary and tell people "here you go, good luck making your own fw with this thang".

And I recently deleted my "test directory". I only know "fwbuilder" didn't work but had tried like 4-5 others.

Back when I ran redhat I had a simple gtk2 firewall. (i later found it had holes, but if I am trying to include a helper app - it'd still be good)

(ps: it's not that you can't start X without an IP, it's that once you do you can't change X's IP, which does have an impact on X Network Transparency. maybe Xorg has a new feature I don't know of - i don't doubt it.)

> no GUI interface

I meant that only for the WIFI, not for the firewall. But you may be right. Though I think gtk2 wifi config are hard to find as I said. And Qt - that is not small just to provide a single widget app.

If you are just looking for a text WiFi connection tool, then nmtui might be what are looking for.
As for your firewall needs, can't help there.
