2 machines on same router unable to "see" each other

I have a Mac (Mac OSX 10.9.4) and a Raspberry Pi B+ (Raspian distro) both up and running on the same router. Both have internet connection - they both can load webpages, ping other computers, etc. - but I cannot ping one from the other, nor does the Pi show up on the Network list on the Mac.

The Mac is connected wirelessly via a TimeCapsule. The Pi is connected through the same router (TimeCapsule) but wired via ethernet. Both use DHCP.

I am generally very familiar with the mac, but VERY new to Linux (yes, I realize the irony since Mac * is * Linux).

OS X is not Linux, it's based on BSD Unix.

Try traceroute and see if maybe your router is blocking ICMP. You could also run tcpdump on one while running ping on the other to see the packets in real time.

* sigh * - In the time honored method of on/off, a simple complete unplug/let sit for 30 seconds/plug back in did the trick....

The Pi now has an IP address that is on the same network as my Mac, so they can ping each other just fine....

Thank you!
