1 nic internet and file sharing

Hello

i have redhat 9 and 1 nic (really 2 but the nvidia dosn't work) so i want to give the others machines in the network private ip's being the linux (server) the only one with the public ip but they need to be networked and need to see internet also they need to see the samba server with some files and dir's too.... the (server) is also ftp server for now.... some day will be web server too

1st you should check out this:

Shows you how to assign 2 ips to 1 nic. I havent ever tried it but I dont think its very hard.

There are several howto's on http://tldp.org that deal with Masquerading which is what you need to route your internet connection to the other machines.

I have run into problems with the Linux stack and IP-Aliasing. I would suggest installing a second NIC and making your linux box a router/firewall with IP tables. here is a good how-to:
