Photo taken but not saved on Android

There's an annoying problem keep bugging me for long time, as far as I remember it happened first on Android 8. There are about 10 out of 100 photos taken not saved, nowhere to be found on the phone, most of the time it's one-off and repeat later, but in rare occasion up to 3 consecutive photos taken not saved. I tried LG, Nokia and CAT phone all have this problem up to Android 10, I don't have latest version I can't test, but very certain it was the "write permission" bug to external drive caused that.

The "write permission" bug I mention caused some apps to crash, data not saved but said done, permission granted but keep "forgetting"...etc. wonder if I'm alone on this.

I assume you have tried setting a specific directory for your screenshots to be saved. This is not often for me but this problem I have had before. Several things have fixed this like changing the directory or rebooting but oddly enough sometimes it will fix itself after not using the function for a little while. Have you tried installing a 3rd party screenshot application?

Try a different camera app.

Just to make sure I understand, does this mean that you've managed to point your camera to an external (extra SD card?) drive to store photos?

Yes, I pointed it to the external storage which is the SD card, btw since you brought this up I remember something, can't recall which phone and version, I set the camera storage to SD card, but it reset to default internal storage after some use. I did use 3rd party camera app, but have not tested enough, since some app relied on the stock camera app when taking photo, scan code...etc., so the stock app still preferred, and I believe the OS bug caused the problem.

It's a shot in the dark, but, as a workaround, you might try pointing the "save" function to the default location and from time to time moving the photos to the other storage device.

You're not alone in experiencing this issue, and it's unfortunate that it has persisted across different devices and Android versions.
