a good GNU/Linux distro with touch support for Dell Latitude 10" tablet

Does anyone out there have any experience with Linux on a tablet? I couldn't find Ubuntu Touch for an Atom cpu. This Latitude 10 has a wacom stylus and five finger touch. It came with Windows 8.1 pro installed and I guess it's is alright. This is the first time I didn't instantly wipe windows upon purchase. I'd like to have a dual boot setup.

thanks

Linux touchscreen support is in the kernel; it's not at the distro level. I have a Lenovo graphics tablet (it's basically an all-in-one computer) with a touchscreen. I seldom use the touch screen feature, but every distro I've run on it has worked with supported it. I've never explored the more subtle aspects of multi-finger touch screens, though.

It's probably best to stick with one of the main stream distros.

This article addresses some of the quirks and foibles of touch screens on Linux. https://www.linux.com/learn/how-conf...chscreen-linux

A search for "linux touchscreen support" will turn up many more useful links.

Thank you for the information. I didn't know, but I'm inferring, that most distributions have very similarly configured kernels, which makes sense to me. So it oughtn't be surprising that there's touchscreen support. The world of GNU/Linux is so wide and deep! So much to know/not know.

I am now wondering are libraries, like for example there's a Unity Touch thingamjig for Ubuntu ..let my just include a linkhttps://www.ubuntu.com/mobile/devices

It looks like this Ubuntu thing is for ARM devices? And Ubuntu seems like it's straying very far from the ideal and practice of 'Free Software.' I was wondering tho' if there was something like this Ubuntu Touch which would run on my Latitude, which has an Intel Atom processor, not an ARM chip.

I'm afraid Ubuntu will become another Android.

Question: is there an environment, with a SDK or linkable libraries, I can use with my Latitude, to program my own drawing program using touch and also my stylus?

Uggh! It's hard to say what I want or make a good question when I'm trying to find out what's there in a more general way. Sort of a follow-your-nose approach to learning.

I use MX Linux on one touchscreen laptop.

I use Linux_lite on another touchscreen netook.

Both work just fine with "onboard" screen displayed keyboard and the Dell XT2 I have comes with a wacom pen with click buttons on the rear. I run 4.xxx kernels. I can run onboard in xfce or a window manager like Icewm. As long as I set up my autolaunch on login. In slim login manager. I cannot bring it up however. Both my touchscreen gear has a working keyboard. You might want to set up autologin if you run into a roadblock like I just mentioned.

My touchscreen gear is probably older than yours. So if I was you. I'd shoot for the highest 4.xxx kernel I could boot and run. I pretty much had touchscreen support at 3.16 kernel on passive touchscreen without a wacom pen. Uses a cheap platic pen instead.

I have the wacom pen one dialed in so good. I can move my mouse around with about 1/8" of space of air between the pen and the screen. I don't have to make physical contact till I which to hit a button or close or expand and window. I can draw and write though without touching the screen.

Good luck with it.
