[SOLVED] "usr/bin/python" loads the system

Linux Mint 9, Gnome.

"usr/bin/python usr/sbin/update-apt-xapian-index -q" (htop)

This thing loads my system on 100% for like a minute or a bit less everytime I boot Mint 9 Gnome. What is it?

Python is just the shell (interpreter) that is used to run whatever Python code is in the
file usr/sbin/update-apt-xapian-index.

Maybe you can also refine "load". What are you talking about: CPU load, memory usage,...?
Could you post the output of the "top", and maybe some process information (ps, lsof)?

It sounds like this is being called in a startup script. First, find out what "update-apt-xapian-index" is supposed to and then take it out of the startup scripts if you don't need it.

But, if it just happens at startup, consider leaving it alone.

I just fugured out that this doesn't happen every bootup... So I don't know the reason for this to run. Next time I'll see it I'll post a screenshot with all the info.

the app is an indexer that maintains a database related to package management (synaptic/aptitude).

Maybe the package manager (or at least the indexer) can be reconfigured to consume less resources?

According to the same web page, the indexer gets loaded from a weekly cron job (at bottom of the web page).
