Thanks. That suggests corruption in your dpkg package database.

Try the following to restore the backup copy of the status file:

Code:
sudo cp /var/lib/dpkg/status-old /var/lib/dpkg/status
then run the command in the previous post again (please do use CODE tags for your output).

Martin, could you please edit your post above to place the output within CODE tags (see the link below). Many thanks.

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...og.php?b=36313

Edit: I've now asked an admin to do it (so that we can get back to a normal width thread - otherwise it makes this thread a bit difficult to manage).

Ok, that "iF" beside linux-firmware shows that the package was unpacked but configuration failed half-way through leaving the package half-configured.

We'll need to try and purge then reinstall that package. However, given its importance, I would highly recommend that you backup all your data and consider also making a system snapshot/backup/image with TimeShift or similar so that you can roll back if things go awry.

Once that is done, you can purge the package with:

Code:
apt purge linux-firmware
Then reboot and run:
Code:
apt install linux-firmware
Then reboot again.

[SOLVED} LIBLVM2CMD2.02 Broken

Hi hydrurga,
Thank you for your help, as you can gather I haven't got a clue what I'm doing, the problem has either been dropped mintupdate or you cleared it from the last package input.
The next thing to do would be to learn alitle bit about all this.
thanks again Martin
