Trying to load source code for mint. Problem

I am following the users guide and have been stuck here

make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/keith/Sandbox/mintinstall'
dh_gencontrol
dpkg-gencontrol: warning: package mintinstall: unused substitution variable ${miscepends}
dh_md5sums
debian/rules override_dh_builddeb
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/keith/Sandbox/mintinstall'
dh_builddeb -- -Zxz -z9
dpkg-deb: building package 'mintinstall' in '../mintinstall_8.0.3_all.deb'.
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/keith/Sandbox/mintinstall'
dpkg-genbuildinfo
dpkg-genchanges >../mintinstall_8.0.3_amd64.changes
dpkg-genchanges: info: including full source code in upload
dpkg-source --after-build mintinstall
dpkg-buildpackage: info: full upload; Debian-native package (full source is included)
signfile mintinstall_8.0.3.dsc
gpg: skipped "Clement Lefebvre <root@linuxmint.com>": No secret key
gpg: dpkg-sign.kuReNBfX/mintinstall_8.0.3.dsc: clear-sign failed: No secret key

dpkg-buildpackage: error: failed to sign .dsc file
keith@keith-To-be-filled-by-O-E-M:~/Sandbox/mintinstall$

Where do I get the secret key I can not see anything in the developers guide?

What are you trying to 'make' there?

Why don't you just install from the .iso?

I want to change the distro fix the Mint-X and add another wallpaper as the start.

And fix a bug in 19.3 and put back Gimp and VLC

It is coding practise really.

This is for Debian not Mint.. but it's most likely the same issue. The process to "make" apparently signs with a key, which you don't have setup. That's the last error I see so you can try fixing that and rerunning to see if it still fails.

OP: none of the things you mention require building the whole distro from scratch. Also, none of the proposed changes require coding.

What dies OP: mean Opinion?

If I want a disk with my new wallpaper as default in the installation screen and default also with the icon as Mint-X as it used to be before Mint 19.0 and put back Gimp and VLC back in the menu and fix the bug. I do not see how.

Not forgetting my practising my C again.

Would be glad to know how?

As well as the latest daily version of 19.3
