pad2pad.exe via wine works in Qiana but not in Sarah (18)
Hello all
I need help with an application that is run in the wine enviornment.
I have Linux Mint 64-Bit Qiana (17) AND Linux Mint 64-Bit Sarah (18)
Pad2Pad.exe via wine works well in Linux Mint (Qiana 17).
Pad2Pad.exe via wine installs but freezes as it loads the initial workspace. (Sarah 18)
Has anyone gotten pad2pad to work in Sarah?
Anyone willing to work with me to find the answer? ( I am computer literate somewhat )
I am not aware of any major differences between 17 and 18 that would cause this to break. This problem is the same on my AMD desktop computer and my INTEL laptop.
Both are 64-bit. And wine is set to 32-bit environments. (Version 1.6.3)
Does anyone know where I might get help with this problem? (I'm not experienced enough in these matters)
Are you sure that the version of Wine is the same in both cases? (use dpkg -l wine* and list here all the installed packages with their version numbers)
Thank you pan64.
I will try that if hydrurga does not respond soon as I don't want to
mix things up for his help. I'm thinkin that might do it though.
I did not notice the two different pkgs until hyrurga led me there.
The 2 versions are indeed different, so we need to ensure the Sarah one matches the Qiana one, but can you first post the output of dpkg -l wine* with an asterisk on the end (you may not have noticed the asterisk in my post).
SARAH 18 - output of sudo dpkg -l wine* (pad2pad does NOT work on this Os)

Thanks. Over to you now to play "Spot the Difference" and ensure that the same Wine packages are installed on the Sarah setup that are installed on the Qiana one.
Ensure first that Sarah has everything that Qiana had, and is also set to run the same Wine with pad2pad i.e. 32-bit. Test it out as you go along.
If it still doesn't work, you could consider uninstalling packages from Sarah that weren't on Qiana, and also installing and using the exact versions that you had on Qiana (although hopefully you won't need to go that far).
Let us know how it gets on!
By the way, you should edit your previous comment and remove some of the "=" divider symbols as they are over-extending the width of this thread.
Thank you !
I thought it might have something to do with that but didn't really know.
I will totally re-format the hd and re-install mint fresh and do as instructed.
Thanks again
It is very easy for me (takes less than 30 minutes) and erases any f* ups I made by
installing/uninstalling and such. Maybe the failure is because I'm using 64-Bit Sarah
instead of 32-Bit Sarah?
Sorry, problem is beyond me. Thank you hydurga for your help.
Too many problems - dotnet40 does not load (says there is already a higher version) and pad2pad will not continue without it.
I worked around it with winetricks.
Linux Mint loads what it wants to load from its own repository using the Software Manager and I do not want to go the compile route.
I will keep my dual-boot into Qiana32 and maybe a couple of years down the road, wine will work with pad2pad.
Doesn't seem to be any interest in pad2pad/linux so I guess I will convert all my schematics and artwork to kicad. Alot of work.
Thanks again hydurga for your help
Well damn hydrurga, I'm pretty bad. I have solved this problem, too easy and very stupid on my part.
But you did spur me on to find the solution - thanks. I had forgot about pad2pad being 64-bit and I don't
know where I found that info either. Pad2Pad doesn't support any linux. So...
I changed my wine configuration default from Xp (normally 32-bit) to Windows7 (64-bit). Re-installed
pad2pad. I choose also to load the defaults once into pad2pad. Lesson learned. [SOLVED]
