Linuxmint17 not rebooting after second package update
I took a shot at Mint 17 today and after two installs, am ready to throw in the towel. I installed, went through the first set of package
updates, working away and was prompted for a second set of updates. Did the install and now my computer can't boot. Am running an onboard Intel graphics card. Am trying my third install, the cpu does support PAE, not sure what to do next,
Did you run: sudo apt-get update, and then: sudo apt-get upgrade?
At the end of the process, if a new kernel was installed (which you should notice if you are watching) it should run: sudo update-grub to get a new menu with the new kernel. If that doesn't happen, run it manually after it finishes.
More information on whether you got any warning/error messages during the update and exactly what happens when you try to boot and since you have not indicated otherwise, we expect Mint is your only OS.
Thanks for your responses, guys Yancek, you described exactly the part that I missed. Spotted it on a Google search, ran "sudo apt-get update, and then: sudo apt-get upgrade" and I got the box to boot. I used to be a long time Linuxmint user but switched to Fedora about a year ago. Am now back with Linuxmint on one of my boxes.
