...LXDE items installed on my system (read my signature to find out what it is).
Some time back, I opened a GUI utility via Konsole (well, there I've given all of you a clue) and immediately afterwards, when I went to open directories in Konqueror (ditto!), Nautilus would show the contents.
What I would like to know is: what utilities (in K or any other DE) would give a user this option? If I had a few names, I could search for them and, if installed, try to undo the 'damage,' before removing the utilities and their dependencies. I know enough to research more than one way to remove unwanted apps and utilities, and if I see something vital (KDE Desktop, for instance) as a candidate for removal along with thing X or Y that I want to uninstall, I'll look for some other way of removing That Thing.
What was the GUI utility you opened that caused the trouble?
Why do you think that you have "LXDE items" on your system? Nautilus is normally the file manager used on Gnome, LXDE uses PCManFM.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nautilus came with your Mint 18 install - it just looks as if your default file manager has been changed. All you need to do is change it back to Konqueror (although Dolphin is a far better file manager ).
What was the GUI utility you opened that caused the trouble?
That's what I can't remember. I was asking if anyone knew of GUI apps that had the capability of setting it up so what happens with Konqueror passing me off to Nautilus (now Nemo; my Nautilus install had no menus on top of the windows and no option to show or not show them) when I double-click on a folder icon.
And my Mint install did not come with Nautilus. I got it from the repos. Likewise Nemo. Why not build from scratch? I often don't know what the outcome will be of an ordinary "configure/make/make install" drill. Sometimes i can have my Konsole parked in the folder of the decompressed tarball, and configure still won't work. Even when ls shows a configure script right in that same directory. But all that is digression.

Reason: Took out a few words, added others.
I believe what you are looking for is System Settings > Applications > Default Applications.
If not, maybe you could describe the problem more clearly? Tell us:
0. how you are able to re-produce the problem consistently
1. what you expect or want to happen.
2. what is actually happening instead
So far, I understand that you believe you have LXDE installed by mistake (not sure why you think this), that either Nautilus or Nemo are being launched when you click on icons from Konqueror when Konqueror is launched from Konsole, and that you are trying to get us to guess something (that you are a KDE user?) about your system based on your signature. It's a bit obtuse
What do you call this thing (see attached), which appears on my desktop every time I reboot?
grepping for LXDE returns the following:
Code:
apt search LXDE
p live-image-lxde-desktop - live-build configuration for the LXDE desktop live images
p lxde - Metapackage for LXDE
p lxde-common - LXDE session manager and configuration files
p lxde-core - Metapackage for the LXDE core
p lxde-icon-theme - LXDE standard icon theme
v lxde-settings-daemon
...none of which are executables.
Which leaves me with my original question: what did I do to screw up which FM opens the folders from Konqueror instead of Konqueror?
Maybe if someone could tell me what that weird thing in the PNG I just attached is, I'd be closer to solving the problem.
Just so there's no further misunderstanding. The problem is this:

And the only time I mentioned Konsole was in the OP where I referred to launching something (that had a GUI) from Konsole that I can't remember the name of, which created the problem in the first place. I'd post a complete list of what's in my various /bin's if it's necessary, but I don't think anyone has the time for that.

Reason: Restated part of the case; clarified (I hope) some details.
Took reinstalling LM18-KDE (after trying out Cinnamon and having my WiFi disappear after 2 weeks) to find out what it was. I installed it this time to tweak Gnome Terminal, I think.
