/home folder and my ext. hard drives all trying to open with amarok--failing

Just installed mint 17.1 after being away from linux for many many years (and not being very competent with it then either).

I think I selected amarok to open my music files with a right click option at some point, but now when I need to access my external hard drive partitions/folders. amarok tries to open them, and fails....even when I click on my /home it is trying to open with amarok..so obviously I wasn't choosing amarok just for music files, but all "folders"

they were working well before that setting choice, so how can I go back to default settings? I can't access anything on my harddrives.

please help.

Thanks

That is a very strange problem. I have seen and fixed a lot of things in Mint, but I have never heard of this problem.

With a fresh installation sometimes the easiest fix is to re-install.
You can preserve your configuration and applets if you chose the "Something Else" installation, chose the same partition that you have now for the / partition, and do not format the partition (uncheck the little green Format box). Use the same user name.
If you installed some custom PPA's, you may have to re-install those.

Is there a preferred applications applet where this can be reset in the settings?
