Does Linux Mint slow down?

Just reading this https://itsfoss.com/linux-better-than-windows/ it says Windows slows down I expect that is because it gets full of bugs with people reading everything typed. It then says Linux slows down but not as much. I have never heard of this before or experienced it.

Does Linux Mint slow down?

If so why?

I don't think Linux slows down as much, since, as far as I know, the filesystems are not as prone to fragmentation, or something, either (I can't back that up with facts, though).
In my case, I've been using the same installation of Slackware for a couple of years now, even doing a major version upgrade in place and I couldn't notice any degradation in performance that wasn't explained with my program profiles growing and growing (I've kept a firefox profile around for ages now, the internal databases of it are probably full of hot garbage).

The lack of fragmentation is real and well documented. The ext file systems are more intelligent than those used in Windows and the use of a separate swap partition rather than a swap file that constantly expands and contracts also makes a difference.

But I think the real cause of Windows slowing down over time is the clogging of the registry with obsolete entries. Of all the daft things in Windows, surely the binary registry has to be the worst.
