I don't think it offered me the chance to "do something else". I was banking on being asked, as I'm used to that happening.

I think it may have been to do with the fact that I had the home folder on a separate partition, so the Proteus installation didn't wipe it after all.
I certainly learned my lesson!

I usually try a new OS on Virtual Box or some other Virtual Machine. Seems to work out pretty well for me. If I want to keep it then I will install it on my current machine or switch out to another HDD. On my Lenovo I can use a hard drive caddy and pick which HDD to boot from.
