o yuo mean that vd/ling software is always 'iffy', or is it just with 'software manager'?

I've only used 'software manager' (rebranded ubuntu 'software centre') a few times. I mostly use the terminal to get software/updates/upgrades.

You could try installing and using 'synaptic'.
HA! If I'd typed in the right title I would have gotten the correct info. Yep they are all there, but I took a gamble and went to my local computer shop and he sold me a used for 40 bucks. I'll put my DX in today and my RAM.

Its the Software Managar that sometimes doesn't install selected software... I'm not sure what's up with that but as long as I can download via the terminal, I'm fine with that. But now I'm having issues with the Update Manager, I'm getting this error.

"Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

This all started because this files couldn't be uploaded via the Device Managar.

Everything has seemed to right itself...

I put the soundcard in and it sounds heaveningly. thank you for all the help and suggestions cascade9.

I was mailed the wrong RAM so I'll have to wait for that. I'm tackling getting by USB bluetooth to pair with my Apple Wireless Keyboard, my iPod Touch's connect 2g, 3g, 5g, connect but not the keyboard. I recieve an error message via the mask #, weird. All in all, all is well, it a pleasure not to have to deal with crashes, lock-ups, involuntary reboots and power down & ups. Best thing ever happen to me was that computer dying.
