I'm going to assume the answer to this is out there, but i haven't had any luck searching it out.
I really want to make the switch from Windoze and have installed and used Mint/Ubuntu along with other distros, but end up going back because of weird little niggles that I can't sort out.
So... Thinkpad with a 240GB SSD and a 2TB spinner. The 2TB drive is what I use as my 'data' drive...in Windows and when I have Mint installed. My OS is installed on the 240.
After installing Mint, the 2nd HDD (the 2TB) mounts, and I can use it just fine, but it doesn't seem to exist in applications. Ex: I need to use VirtualBox for some Garmin software that I use. When I go to set up an OS in VirtualBox, I get to the point where I try to either import an existing virtual machine , or create a new one..and when it opens the box where I can browse to the folder I want to create it in, or import it from, the only options I ever see in the 'Look In' area are "Computer" and /home/myusername.
Selecting Computer, I see / in the right pane....if I select that I get bin root cdrom, etc. selecting my username just shows me my home folder.
For whatever reason, I can't navigate to my 2TB drive. Now, I did create links in my Home to folders on the 2TB drive, and I can see all those.
The 2TB drive is NTFS...but I have it in my head that if I can mount it, read and write to it, then applications should also be able to use it....
I could format it, and copy everything over to it again from my backup drive, but I'd rather not, if this is an easy thing to fix.
I mount mine in /media/data and it always shows up when ever I open a file manager (LINUX) in the side bar. It does not matter what format you're using.
