Can I upgrade my 17.3 copy from 32 bit to 64 bit version?

HI! I have an HP Compaq 8710w Intel Core 2 Duo CPU which I have been using for years in 32 bit mode and just found out that it is 64 bit capable. I am running mint 17.3 in 32 bit and would like to know if I can upgrade to the 64 bit version or do I need to do a clean install?

Thanks!!
Rick

No, you can't change the architecture during an upgrade. Download the 64-bit version and install it over your current system.

Thanks Hazel! That clarifies it for me--I guess "upgrade" was the wrong term to use. I'll just install the 64 bit version.
